FOR FOUNDERS · BEYOND NO-CODE

Moving beyond no-code, without stalling the product.

Bubble, Glide and Lovable are the right way to reach a first version. They are the wrong place to stay once real users, real data and real money start leaning on the product. This page collects everything we have written about the move: how to tell it is time, what to fix first, which stack to choose and what it costs.

The short answer

Move when the platform starts deciding what you can build.

The usual signs are pages slowing as your data grows, workflows nobody can change without breaking something else, integrations a customer needs that you cannot build, and security or compliance questions you cannot answer. If you are still validating the idea, stay where you are. If users are already paying, plan the move before it turns into an emergency.

Most moves do not need a big-bang rewrite. Keep what users already rely on, move the data model and the parts that break first, and stage the rest. If you want a quick read on where your own product stands, the ten-question founder quiz takes a few minutes.

Spot the ceiling

Signs you have outgrown the platform.

Start with the seven signs it is time to move beyond Bubble, Glide or Lovable. For the longer version, eleven signs your product needs more than a patch covers performance, UX and tech debt together. On Bubble specifically, what breaks at traction walks through slow pages and workflow sprawl, and what breaks next as your MVP scales covers the database and stability side.

Still on a free tier? Free app makers are the right call for v1, and building an MVP for free is a legitimate path. Both cover the point where free starts costing you. If the business runs on spreadsheets rather than an app builder, scaling past Google Sheets and Apps Script is the same problem with different symptoms.

Decide the move

Patch, migrate or rebuild.

The decision is rarely all or nothing. Our rebuild or patch checklist weighs performance, unit economics, tech debt, security and lock-in. Build, buy or bridge covers when off-the-shelf software is the better answer. Once you have decided, the Bubble migration plan sets out what to keep and what to rebuild, and the real app development process after no-code walks through scoping, architecture and phased data migration.

Most founders making this move do not have a CTO. Production-ready architecture without a CTO covers the calls you still have to make, and why a generic dev shop is the wrong hire covers what to look for in a partner. For web products, getting from MVP to production and when your no-code MVP starts costing you growth lay out the path. If you want someone making those calls with you, that is what Start Up Studio is for.

Choose the stack

Web, cross-platform or native.

Before you commit to the app stores, read why web-first is usually the right default. For mobile, the blunt guide to mobile after no-code and what to fix, rebuild and ship next set out the decision. If your app is a wrapped web view, the Play Store wall explains why it keeps getting rejected.

On frameworks: React Native after no-code, rebuilding in Flutter, and for Android-first products, moving from Bubble to Kotlin and Android Studio for founders.

Budget it

What the move actually costs.

The real cost to build and scale your app in Australia covers the drivers that decide a rebuild budget: scope, data, integrations, compliance, and the running costs founders forget. Why app price calculators mislead explains why a generic estimate rarely lands close, and AWS costs without the guesswork shows how to turn your current usage into a hosting estimate.

Add AI properly

Adding AI without adding debt.

A rebuild is a good moment to add AI, and a bad moment to add it badly. Start with practical AI features you can ship this quarter and how to move past AI demos. How to add AI without piling on tech debt covers the architecture, AI app development beyond no-code covers AI products that started on a no-code stack, and our guide to Google AI Studio covers when the free tier is enough.

Questions

Common questions about moving beyond no-code.

How do I know my no-code app has hit its limit?

Pages slow down as your data grows, changing one workflow breaks another, a customer needs an integration you cannot build, or you cannot answer a security or compliance question about where your data lives. One of these is a warning. Two or more usually means it is time to plan the move.

Do I have to rebuild everything at once?

Usually not. Most moves run in stages: stabilise what is there, move the data model and backend first, then replace the front end screen by screen while the existing app stays live for your users. Staging the move keeps the product earning while the rebuild happens.

What does it cost to move off Bubble?

It depends on scope, the state of your data, your integrations and your compliance needs, which is why generic calculators rarely land close. A fixed-scope review of your current build is the fastest way to a number you can plan around.

Should I rebuild as a web app or a mobile app?

Web-first is the right default for most products. Go cross-platform or native when you need device features, reliable offline use or app store distribution that a web app cannot give you. Starting on the web also means one codebase to maintain while you learn what users need on mobile.

Should I stay on no-code for now?

If you are still validating the idea, yes. No-code is the fastest way to learn what users want. Plan the move once people are paying and the platform starts limiting what you can build. Moving earlier spends runway on engineering before you know what is worth engineering.

WHO THIS ISN'T FOR

If you are still validating the idea, stay on no-code. It is the fastest way to learn what users want, and none of this applies yet. Come back when people are paying and the platform starts saying no.
