ABOUT CASTLE
An Australia-based product studio with senior product leadership local to you and a delivery model designed to scale around it. This page explains the structure, because it's the first thing serious buyers ask about.
WHY?
Alex and Mark met at an HR tech startup. A SaaS platform, a small team, and a few years of the kind of education you only get from the inside: raising capital, cutting features, finding product market fit and then watching it move. Two lessons stuck. The first is that a product is only as good as your understanding of the person using it. The second is that the technical decisions you make in month one decide what's possible in year three.
Before that, Alex had been part of building another tech platform from a startup into a global business. After it, he spent years consulting inside large digital agencies serving enterprise clients: banks, airlines, telcos. Those organisations are already digital. What they want from a vendor is capacity. Strategy goes to a big four consultancy, outcomes stay in-house, and the agency supplies resources by the sprint. It's a good business to be in. It just isn't a product business, and every year it gets more commoditised.
Mark came at it from the other direction. Two decades of leadership across telco and ICT at Optus and Vodafone, then a run of his own ventures. He knows how large organisations make decisions, and he knows what it costs a founder to make the wrong one.
What we both kept noticing was where the good thinking wasn't going. The frameworks, the product discipline, the senior people who ask the uncomfortable question before the build starts: all of it pointed at organisations that already had it covered. Meanwhile the founder with fifteen years of domain expertise, the NFP running critical services on software nobody has looked at since 2019, the mid-market business with one shot at getting a product right, were being handed the cheapest available build team and wished luck.
That's the gap Castle was started to close: the same product leadership the enterprise pays a premium for, put next to people whose knowledge of their own market is the most valuable asset in the room. They bring the domain. We bring the product craft. The partnership is the point.
HOW WE WORK
Castle keeps a small senior core in Australia and scales delivery through a dedicated team in India, Philippines and Pakistan. Product strategy, architecture, design direction and client relationships sit with the people you meet. Build capacity scales around them.
This is a deliberate choice, and it's the reason the economics work. A fully local studio at this seniority prices most projects out of reach. A fully offshore team gives you build capacity with no product leadership and a timezone problem. Neither model gets you senior product thinking on a budget that survives a board meeting.
What you get instead: the person who scopes your project is the person accountable for what ships. They're in your timezone, in your meetings, and reachable. The delivery team behind them is a standing team, not a contractor marketplace, and they work to the same standards on every engagement.
PEOPLE
Alex has built product from both sides. He helped grow a messaging startup into a global platform business, ran product at an HR tech SaaS venture, then spent years consulting in large digital agencies serving enterprise clients including banks, airlines and telcos. He leads product strategy at Castle, and he'll tell you what not to build before he tells you what to.
Mark has spent his career between big telco and small ventures. Two decades of leadership across ICT at Optus and Vodafone, then a series of his own companies. He knows how large organisations buy, how they stall, and what it costs a founder to get the early decisions wrong.
BUILT BY CASTLE
Olympus Insights is the company we co-own. Its products, OLi LMS and OLi AI Tutor, are built and maintained by the Castle team.
The way we build AI into them is the way we build it for clients. See how we embed AI properly
It's the reason we can talk about product decisions from the inside rather than from the outside. We carry the same roadmap pressure, the same technical debt calls and the same "is this feature worth it" arguments our clients do.
HOW WE OPERATE
Each line answers a question you're already asking.
FIT
We tell you when we're the wrong fit.
Every engagement starts with an honest read on whether we should be doing it. We've told founders not to rebuild and told teams to hire instead of engaging us. It costs us work and it's the right call.
ALIGNMENT
We work inside your process.
Your tools, your standups, your code review, your shipping cadence. We don't arrive with a methodology you didn't ask for.
ACCESSIBILITY
Accessibility scoped upfront.
We agree your accessibility target at kickoff and design to it from the first wireframe. Retrofitting it later costs more and works less well.
HANDOVER
Tell us about your organisation and what you're working on. We'll come back with thoughts, questions, and an honest view on whether we're the right fit.
