The real cost to build and scale your app in Australia after no‑code

The real cost. Cover illustration: a tilted cost estimate with one unbudgeted line and a pink total.

Part of our guide to moving beyond no-code

Your no-code MVP got you this far. Now it is hitting real limits, and the question every founder asks next is what a rebuild will cost.

We are not going to give you a number. Anyone who quotes a figure before they have seen your product is guessing, and a guess anchors your budget in the wrong place. What we can do is show you what drives the cost, so you can budget with clear eyes and push back on estimates that do not add up.

What Drives the Build Cost

Business logic, not screen count

Screen count is a poor proxy for effort. The real cost sits in the rules: permissions, payments, matching, notifications, approvals. Two apps with the same number of screens can differ widely in what it takes to build them properly.

Your data model

No-code tools let data grow organically. Moving it into a proper relational model means cleaning it, mapping it and migrating it without breaking anything live users depend on. The messier the data, the more the migration costs.

Integrations

Every third-party service, from payments to your CRM, has to be rebuilt, tested and monitored. What was a plugin in Bubble becomes code you own and maintain.

Compliance

The Australian Privacy Principles apply to how you collect and store personal information, and health, education and financial products carry extra obligations. Building these in from the start costs less than retrofitting them.

The team you hire

Rates vary with seniority and delivery model. A lower rate that needs more time or more rework ends up costing more. Ask who makes the architecture calls, and how much senior time the estimate actually includes.

What It Costs to Keep Running

The build is only the first part of the bill. Budget for:

  • Hosting and infrastructure, which scale with usage. The AWS Pricing Calculator lets you model this from real MVP numbers.
  • Support and maintenance: bug fixes, OS and library updates, security patches.
  • Third-party services: email, SMS, payments, analytics and AI model usage.
  • Ongoing development, because a product with users is never finished.

Skip these and the gap shows up later as technical debt, which costs more to fix than it would have cost to prevent.

How to Budget with Confidence

Get the scope right before you get quotes. A proper review of your current build tells you what is worth keeping, what needs rebuilding and what order to do it in. That turns a vague estimate into a staged plan you can fund in steps.

That is what our Strategy & Audit is for. It is the first paid step, fixed in scope, and you come away with a written plan covering cost, timeline and risk. If you want a sense check first, book a free 30-minute call.
